Like many people, Matt picked up his first guitar during the COVID-19 lockdowns — later than most, in his early 30s, while living in the UK. What started as something to fill the time quickly became an obsession.
That obsession led him to leave a career in tech and enrol at Crimson Guitars' school of lutherie, founded by master luthier Ben Crowe — one of the most respected names in the craft. From there, Matt built and ran a successful guitar repair studio and custom shop in Somerset, Southwest England, earning a 100% five-star Google rating along the way.
Now based in Kumeu, West Auckland, Matt brings that same level of care and expertise to The Guitar Tech. His work spans everything from custom guitar builds to repairs and upgrades, with a particular passion for high-quality setups — dialling in action, intonation, and playability so your instrument feels and performs exactly as it should.
Whether your guitar is a treasured vintage piece or a new axe that just needs some love, it's in good hands.
Have a guitar that needs some love? Drop Matt a message — he'd love to help.
